The Marburg Residents’ Association recently presented its inaugural Shine awards to Doug Amiss (the 400m hurdler) of Tallegalla and Alexandra Toft (Endurance Rider) of Marburg. Alexandra is a year 12 student who has already attended the World Youth Championships in 2009, World Youth and Young Riders Endurance championships in 2011 and hopes to be selected for the Australian team in the World FEI Endurance Championships in England this year. Doug is training to be a Physical Education teacher while training six days a week for his chosen track and field events of 400m hurdles as well as the 100 and 200m hurdle events. Doug will be competing at the 2012 Australian Open Athletics and Olympic selection trials and hopes to be selected as part of the Australian Olympic track and field team.
The MDRA is proud to recognise and support the achievements of these talented local young people. The Shine awards are biannual awards that seek to recognise and support the endeavours of young people across any field: sports, the arts, academic or any sphere of their life where they are achieving outstanding results.
This site will post a call for the second round of nominations in September. Watch here for details.
